Hello Alabama Region! My name is Amy Beaver and I am the 2011/12 Vice President of District 1. Since being a member of Phi Theta Kappa I have been honored with a new family, a new way of life, and best of all a new and improved Amy!

I selected Business Management for my major with the intentions of having my own business shortly after receiving my degree. At this time I do not plan to pursue a four year degree but to go directly into my own antique business.

In my spare time, which is very little, I enjoy browsing antiques, it’s like being on a treasure hunt, and you never know what you may find! I also enjoy reading, gardening, and spending time with my family.

A few of my goals for District 1 are to help organize activities among the chapters, organize and implement a District 1 monthly news letter, and to link a chapter with another chapter close enough in distance, so that all chapters have a “Sister Chapter” to lean on when assistance is needed. If these goals are implemented and are put into place, I feel that each chapter could benefit and become a more effective chapter in many different areas of our Hallmarks!

I look forward to working and having fun with everyone in the coming year. Together we can accomplish extraordinary things that can change lives forever. We have the opportunity to assist in opening doors of success for our future district and regional officers, while at the same time experiencing our own Success!

Hello Everyone,

This is Amy, your new Vice President of District 1. I hope that if you attended the International Convention in Seattle that you enjoyed it has much as I did, and congratulations to all of you that received awards!! The Alabama region brought home several awards and I couldn't be more proud to be from this Great State!!

During the regional sessions in Seattle, I stated that I wanted to organize “Warm Coats for Japan” as a project for our District and, hopefully, for the Alabama Region. I have spent several hours searching for an organization that is excepting donations other than money for Japan but to no avail. I have spoken with both the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army and both say that everything is being done locally in Japan. Evidently, international shipping charges are a huge problem not to mention trying to organize the items once they arrive. Even though I have yet to make any positive progress toward my goal I will not give up! If any of you are aware of any organization that is accepting clothes or coats for Japan please let me know ASAP. I will continue to make calls and search the internet for information that will help us to get warm coats to Japan! Any assistance that any of you can offer will be very much appreciated.

It's time once again for spring induction ceremonies; Sigma Lambda, my college’s chapter, will have our Spring Induction ceremony Friday night. I will be sure to take lots of photos for our Regional web site. I would appreciate it if each of you would also share photos from your induction ceremony by sending them to me so that I can post those as well! Also, please send me information about any events and activities for your chapter and contact information on your officers. I would like to get my contact list updated for each chapter and need your help.

If anyone needs any assistance with events please don't hesitate to contact me; I am here for you and want to help in any way I can. I look forward to the upcoming year and hope that we can "learn to lean on one another" and have a wonderful year!

Hello District One,

I hope all of you are doing well, and have settled into a routine for fall semester. Chapters that have set a goal to develop a College Project and/or an Honors in Action Project have 13 weeks to complete the work—plenty of time if you all work together as a team and stick to the plan!

Have you looked at your Chapter Guide to Success to see your chapter’s progress in the Five Star Chapter Development Plan lately? If there is anything I can do to assist you with your 5 star goals please don’t hesitate to contact me.

It was good to see many of you again at the leadership conference a couple of weeks ago. I hope that you and your chapter members were able to gain information that will help you to build a strong chapter. I have seen some of the photos posted from the conference and it looked like everyone was having a good time…. I know I did!

I would love to hear what District One is doing for the C4 (Commit to Complete Community College) project! Please send me an email with information and photos of your college’s students making the commitment, and we will post the pictures on the regional website, alptk.com.

I was invited to attend the first Meet–n-Greet held at Bevill State Community College on the Jasper campus, and am happy to report it was a success! We signed up four new members on the spot! I do believe that this will become a regular event for Jasper’s Lambda Epsilon chapter now. I think most of you have heard me talk about the Meet-n–Greets at Calhoun Community College, but if you are not aware of what a Meet- n- Greet is, please contact me and I will be happy to share the details with you.

I welcome any and all invitations to any of your events. I will be speaking at Northwest-Shoals Community College, Phil Campbell campus on October 23 for Alpha Zeta Iota’s induction ceremony and would love to speak at yours. Please give me as much time in advance as possible so I can arrange my schedule accordingly.

I look forward to hearing from all of you about the progress your chapter has made thus far on your 5 star goals, and how your chapter is involved in work toward our regional goals (these goals are attached), especially our regional Honors in Action Project, “Project SHARE.”

Sincerely,
Amy

Hello District One!

I hope everyone had a blessed and Merry Christmas and that you all are having a great new year!

We are only a few weeks away from the Regional Convention! I am very excited and eager to see all of you again at our chapter’s Decatur campus of Calhoun Community College!

Forms for registration for the Regional Convention will go out this week. Please be sure to mark the dates on your calendar. Also, it is important to submit the forms and fees before the deadline to ensure your reservation is secured. We certainly don’t want anyone to miss out because of a missed deadline!

Please start making your plans now for both the Regional and International Conventions! I will see you there!

We have another date that is fast approaching and that is the February 1st deadline for our Project Share. If you have plans for fund raising, please get it done and have your money submitted before February 1st. Don’t forget that an award will be presented to the Chapter that raises the most money for Project Share scholarships!

I know this is crunch time for Honors in Action, and as you are assembling the essays – compiling names, dates, outcome, etc. – I encourage you to seek help with your editing and critiquing of your work.

If there is anything I can do to assist you with your final touches please don’t hesitate to contact me. This is going to be an awesome year for District One in the awards department because I am confident that each Chapter has an outstanding College Project and Honors in Action Report.

The time is nearing that some of us will be moving on to other endeavors in our lives. Positions of officers in both Chapters and Regional will become available. Now is the time for recruitment. Meet –N- Greets are perfect for answering any questions concerning Phi Theta Kappa and officer positions. I would be happy to meet with anyone that would like to discuss the Regional Vice President of District One position, as my term will be coming to an end in March. I encourage everyone to inquire about any chapter or regional position that they may be interested in!

I hope you have a productive and prosperous semester.

Cordially,

Amy Beaver
